My Joy In Donating

Each time I donate the experience gets more unique to me. I guess part of the satisfaction comes from seeing the outward changes I see in the vampire I donate to. For an example: the vampires I have ( an still) donate to can be very pale and tired.  After a donation, I have seen:  a change in face, eye color change and increased energy. At times the energy can almost appears manic.I feel as if I did something good and useful. It takes the "excess" of whatever it is out and calms me. The connection can be very beautiful and spiritual or intense and edgy. At the beginning, I was accused and also felt I was seeking attention. I was embarrassed and ashamed of what I was. Not anymore. In the stressfulness that is a part of my life, this is one of things I do for me that makes me feel good. Notice I said I "do for me". It took me awhile to realize I got just as much or maybe more sometimes out of the donation.  I wish that every vampire who needs a donor, good luck in their search. If I could take care of everyone who wished and honestly needed a donor, I would.

A Donor's View on Blood Bonds

I wrote this TRYING to help both sides understand what happens when the vamp/donor comes together. (may not be reprinted or posted without permission)
(The following is this donor's perspective)
I have always been of a scientific bent of mind. The dreaded "Blood Bond" to me was something made up by vamps to keep donors in line. I could not have been more wrong.
My first taste of a bond happened after I donated to my first sang. He tried to warn me about it, but, I blew it off. "He just trying to impress me with his scary vamp powers ",I thought to myself. Then I started noticing little things. Out of the blue he would come into my mind (look at the clock) hummm it is the time he goes to work. I would wake up at 12:30 at night with him in my head. (look at the clock) DARN he is on his way home from work. It got to the point I could "feel" him. Sure enough the phone would ring.
This was happening after just one sang donation. At first I explained it as plain old infatuation. Then it kept happening. Time would stretch on between donations. It got so bad. I HAD to hear his voice to be able to rest well at night. Things did not work out for me to continue to be his donor. I was thinking good now this will stop. WRONG! He would pop into my head at the weirdest times. If I let my guard down, I would text him, even though I KNEW I would not be donating to him again. It got to the point to have peace, as to stop obsessing about him, I had to break off contact. There is no magic cure. It takes time and distance.
Why did it affect me so? I can only think of one reason. I think it is because of the two energies involved.  Some vampires, I donated to in my Past, I never thought about again until I was contacted by one or came across something that made me think of them. Here is an example of WHY a regular bond and a Blood Bond are different : energies are different in each person. Think of it as: Oil and water will not mix but vodka and ginger ale will. The donation I described above is the way 99 percent of donations happen. You deal with it as you would any other kind of crush. If it works for both partners, by all means keep at it. When it no longer works for one of the pair in the partnership, it is time to move on and deal with it.
A true Blood Bond is when blood magic and energies combined. It does not have to involve sex. It CAN happen but it has to be an intense energy combination of energies connections. Here is MY personal examples of my 3 Blood Bonds out of the donations I have given to many sang vampires.
I had a female vampire I donated to at least once a month. We have a very strong bond. Something happened and I no longer donate to her.  Luckily, since I  have matured and grown as a donor, I handle the bond better.  I still pick up on her feelings sometimes (which doesn't freak me out now). Our partnership had NOTHING to do with sex. She was married and I am heterosexual. During this time, I would sarcastically tell her I glad this was just in our heads. If it was real it would be HELL.
Another Blood Bond is with a vampire who was a child of mine in the Past. I donate to him when it can be arranged. Still no sex involved.
My STRONGEST Blood Bond is with the current vampire I donate to. I am in a relationship with him plus I am the House donor.  We have a VERY strong connection. To the point I can feel his pain, worry or other emotions. His is the strongest bond. The other members, in the House, I feel less of a bond (unless it is a fledgling who has not learned to shield well). Sabastian DeCavalier and I have been connected in Past Lives. I use to have dreams about him sporadically, from the time I was 13 until I met him in in this life almost two years ago. I would not exist without him and would lay down my life for him.
I tell this story in the hopes it may help vamps and donors to stop and think about the donating relationship one maybe contemplating entering into. It will effect the on the donor/vampire in more ways than you can realize. Especially if the donor/vampire has not experience it before. As stated above these are my thoughts and experiences. I hope it opens the door to help vamps and donors to communicate better about what is going on with each other.
Do I believe in the Blood Bond now? HECK yes!

Meds Effect On Donating

The following information is a condensed version of what The American Red Cross uses as a guideline for its donors’. In donating to a sang, the stomach acid in a vampire’s stomach will destroy meds effects. What medical professionals worry about (if you have open cuts or sore of the mouth) is the risk of catching AIDS, any of the Hepatitis or some other blood borne pathogen. The risk is small this way but it can happen. If something is not covered here, contact The American Red Cross.

Tips On Keeping Blood Healthy

If you have a Sang you donate to regularly, please remember a few simple things. Eat well! This means the dreaded leafy greens, lean red meats, and dried fruit like prunes and raisins. Drink A Lot! No not alcohol, lol. It tends to dehydrate one's self. I am talking water, juice and ect. Rest! after donating! Trying to jump up like Super Donor 2 minutes after donating, tends to leave one in danger of falling on one's face.
Sources of Iron:
Red meat
Egg yolk
Other good sources
Cereals, breads
Dark green leafy vegetables
Dried beans - kidney ,pinto, soy
Dark molasses
Dried fruits (raisins, apricots, peaches)
Why do I bring this up? I let it happen. I was where I could donate everyday for over a week to my sang. A BIG difference in donating 3 days three months apart After donating I jumped up to plug in my cell phone to recharge and almost fell flat on my face. Not Pretty!

Mistakes Donors CAN Make

There are a couple of mistakes new Swans (donors) can make when first starting out. It will put out an impression of you to the vamps ,you may not want. We all know how hard it is to get rid of a bad first impression
Being too eager to get started.
This is was my mistake. I was sooo glad to finally figure out where my path was, I just JUMPED in and carried on and on. Most who know me, I am NOT a Blood Whore. I just honestly saw a need and knew it was my purpose to help. I got accused of being on a man hunt. PUL LEEZE! My eagerness was misinterpreted as attention seeking. As Hard as it is, go S_L_O_W! Read up on donor info and place a few ads and let them contact you. Being too eager, scares alot of vamps. They have good reason, Twilight DID NOT help!
Making a connection too quick:
This will make a vamprye think you are not educated in what is really going on. This will freak them out. It also makes them wary that you are just looking for a relationship to JUMP into. A donor needs to understand this is serious for most vamps and donors. It is our duty to take care of each other.
Not realizing what being a donor really means:
If you agree too fast to donate (blood especially), its makes some vamps afraid you have a disease and it is something they can catch.
You are expecting them to bite you on the neck. I am sorry but donating blood involves some pain. Because to draw blood means using a lance, razor or needle.
My last bit of advice: Chilling out and taking your time. It is the most important thing you can do. DO NOT let the vamps scare you off. Some of them react the way they do because of something that happened in a past incident.
In spite of all the flack you may catch, if you truly want to be a donor (not to be turned or playing a game) you WILL find you niche. Donors especially sangs are needed badly.

Taking Care of Cuts

Disclaimer: This is NOT to take place of seeking medical help from your doc, emergency room or whomever you use for your medical professional.)
(Disclaimer: Cutting can cause infections and scarring. This author does NOT recommends this practice or any other.)
Always clean the area to cut first. This means also to WASH YOUR HANDS.
Do not cut near any visible blood vessels. (Talking about main arteries and veins.)
In case of an medical emergency, seek help from a professional right away.
Remember that where you cut, you run a chance of leaving a visible scar. The deeper the cut the bigger the scar.
Tanning makes a scar stand out more.
Vitamin E oil will help reduce a scar's appearance.
A place where clothes will cover works well. For females: remember a bra rubbing the area you have cut is NOT fun.
Where you cut (remember) it will be sore. So be in mind you will have to protect it until it heals. By this I mean, say you have to wear gloves in your work. the friction from the glove will make the cut take longer to heal.
Cutting in a row will get you branded a cutter.
Cutting in the same place every time will be harder to explain. "Oops cut myself on a knife" will only work so many times. It will also make the skin itself tougher to deal with.
  • If needed take Tylenol (acetaminophen) to help with discomfort.
  • Keep the cut clean and dry.
  • Wash it thoroughly with bacterial soap. -This is the most important step to take and should be done 1 or 2 times a day. Make sure you rinse well and dry completely.
  • Putting an antibiotic ointment will help it heal. Just make sure you use a q-tip instead of your fingers.
*Cover with a non stick dressing if in an area that may get dirty or irritated.
  • If using a dressing apply directly over the cut and wrap loosely. (gauze or ace bandage).
  • to help reduce the chance of it getting infected do not touch your cut with your hands or other objects. Handle the cut as little as you can.
  • Cuts to the arms or legs should be elevated for the first 24-48 hours.
Signs of Infection:
redness; swelling; pain; pus; red streaks, if you see any of these signs seek medical attention promptly.
